Andrew has been spending a lot of time with a friend the past week or so. His friend’s dad has a lot of cars. He asked Andrew to come over and help him work on a car last week that was a 66 or 67 Mustang. Andrew was really excited to go over there and help. He has had a blast the entire time he has been there.
Yesterday, he came home and went right to his room searching for his keys to “Sally”…if you don’t know who “Sally” is, it’s his grandpa’s mustang. My brother gave it to him last summer and he spends a lot of time out in the garage with “Sally” and talking to his grandpa. Anyway, he found the keys and darted out the front door. He came back in a little bit later and gave me a hug. It was a tight hug and he started crying. I asked him what was wrong and he couldn’t get it out. While still in his tight grip, I told him “You miss grandpa, don’t you.” He shook his head. Being around all those cars reminded him of his grandpa and made him miss him more than usual.
When he stopped crying he asked me if I could get grandpa’s photo album out to show his friend the cars that my dad had and others that he had restored. He went through the album several times and asked me questions and just enjoyed looking at the pictures.
We were all very concerned for Andrew, because he rarely comes home like this. He is alright now.
Miss you Dad/Grandpa!
