When Matthew was born, my dad was the first one to the hospital to see him. He was a proud grandpa already, but I think he was even prouder with Matthew because we gave him my dad’s middle name, Allen.
Matthew is a people person, so are the rest of my kids…unlike me when I was little who would rather hide behind my dad than talk to anyone. He is a hard worker and always eager to help anyone, like my dad.
We have a friend, that grew up with my dad, that always told me that Matthew reminded her of my dad. She said he not only looked like him, but he had many actions and expressions like him too. I never really noticed it, until she said something.
A month ago, when I was looking through picture of Matthew to post for his birthday I ran across a photo of me when I was seven years old, I think. I looked at that picture and saw Matthew. People have told me that my kids look just like me but I never really saw the resemblance until that day.
A couple weeks ago I was driving home from work. It was June 12. My friend Nikole’s birthday. She passed in 2012. Anyway, on my way home I was thinking about Nikole. I told her Happy Birthday and then I sang to her. When I finished singing, I sat for a moment in silence and then I asked her if I was going to get to see her kids this summer. I don’t remember much of the ride after that.
A little while after I got home I checked my Facebook and found an invitation from Nikole’s mom. The invitation was for a birthday party for all three of Nikole’s kids. I was so excited to get this invitation and can’t wait to visit her children in July.
Pumpkin’s Patch…when I was little I wanted to plant some pumpkin seeds. My dad showed me how to plant them. I can’t remember if pumpkins actually grew where we planted them, but the memory stuck. I did have a few pumpkin patches growing up…it was one of my favorite pass times, gardening that is.
My dad also called me his Pumpkin. He is the reason I love pumpkin’s, aside from the fact that my birthday is 5 days before Halloween and I love fall.
Yesterday was my nephew Stetson’s 3rd birthday. My brother and Stetson met Matthew and I at Explora. It’s a hands on science museum for kids…and grown-ups too. We had fun playing in the water, musical instruments, and a bunch of other things. Stetson particularly enjoyed the reptile exhibit. There was an aquarium with a turtle, a big fish ( I don’t know the name of) and some goldfish. Stetson told me the big fish was a whale. It was so cute and made me laugh.
When we were finished with Explora, we went to Burger King for lunch.
My Grandma. My grandma passed in 2007 but she always told me that I could do anything I set my mind to. She was an artist and ecoiuraged all of my cousins to find their own talents and was proud of each and every one of us.
I made this for my nephew for Halloween…
My favorite water cup…keeps my water nice and cold.
I adore my daughter, but teaching her to drive stresses me out.
Salt and pepper shakers…these are just a few.
