Think back on your most memorable road trip.
When I was 11 I took a trip to LA with my mom, 2 brothers, grandma, and two cousins (Heather and Jonathan) during our spring break. We were going to Disneyland.
Our first stop was to visit Hoover Dam. That was ok, I remember being scared of the height of the dam. I also at some point was irritated with Jonathan and wanted to push him over the dam wall…. But I didn’t.
Our next stop was Las Vegas to visit our cousins Katrine and Kristi. We stayed at Kristi’s apartment. She had a waterbed, where Heather and I slept. That was the first time I ever slept on a water bed. It was so comfortable. Then we went to our uncle Frank’s house to visit our cousin Katrine. They had a swimming pool, we went swimming while mom and grandma went gambling. We stayed the night there and watched “Pete’s Dragon”. I fell asleep pretty quick. The next day was Palm Sunday, so we all went to church with our cousins, but not before taking pictures by my uncle Frank’s swimming pool. At some point we were on our way again to LA.
We stopped at a McDonald’s somewhere. I forgot to mention that we were traveling in my dad’s 1981 Ford pickup truck. He had a camper shell on it and a thick piece of foam rubber in the bed with a sheet over it. That’s where us five kids rode the whole trip, along with the luggage. Dad had a CB in the cab that my mom and grandma would talk to us on when we made pit stops or were misbehaving. When we stopped at McDonald’s, my mom went to use the CB and instead of turning the speaker on in the back of the truck she turned it on outside the truck. She announced to the entire outside of the restaurant that we were there for a “potty break”. Not embarrassing at all, but we laughed about it a lot.
When we finally made it to LA, we checked into our motel room. I don’t exactly remember the order we went places but we went to Universal Studios where we got our pictures taken with Frankenstein. We saw the Night Rider car KIT. We saw Jaws and the Psycho house. We got our pictures taken with a giant telephone from the Incredible Shrinking Woman movie.
We went to Knott’s Berry Farms theme park where they had some huge roller coasters that I refused to go on. There was also camp Snoopy, I don’t remember much of that. We went in a fun house where there was a flash room that would catch our silhouettes on the walls. That was cool! We were going to get on a ride, I don’t remember what it was, the ride was closed. So we all climbed through the fence and my grandma got stuck in it. Of course my mom took a picture of grandma stuck in the fence.
We went to the Hollywood Wax Museum. It was a cool place and everyone looked to real. They had a Micheal Jackson figure there and the Characters from The Wizard of Oz.
The day we went to Disneyland was my cousin Heather’s 12th Birthday. It was a fun day. The most memorable part was sitting with my grandma while my mom, brothers and cousins went on the jungle safari ride and the boat they were on quit working. So they were stuck in the middle of the jungle safari ride by the hippos for a while. While they sat there the tour guide asked if there were any birthdays there. The people on the ride sang Happy Birthday in 10 different languages while they were waiting to be rescued. I’m pretty sure she will never forget that birthday. When we went back to the motel, we ordered dinner from Denny’s. Mom, Heather, and I went to get the food and got lost on our way back to our room. At some point we made it back and sang happy birthday to Heather.
We went to the beach, on our way out LA. We didn’t spend much time there because it was windy and the sand was hitting us on the legs. It stung. So we left.
There was a lot more detail to this trip, but these are the most memorable thing about it..

That’s a lot of memories, sounds like the best kind of road trip.
It was fun. And when we got back it was Easter.
